Installing an Operating System

I've just bought a Samsung N150 laptop that comes with Windows starter and I want to upgrade it to a 64 bit version of Windows. *Warning - possibility of noob error here* It's the first time I have come across a computer without a cd drive, how do I install windows?

1. External CD/DVD Drive
2. USB Stick

I thought I could use an external drive, to use a usb would I just have to drop the cd contents onto it?

format the stick as FAT32.
then copy the contents of the disk onto it.

Go into the BIOS and set USB to be the first boot device.
