Tried this DVD on another machine is fine, and tried another 2 on mine.

Ive tried 1x liteon dvdrw, 1x samsung cdrw/dvdr drives. Changed IDE cable still same.

The hdd i have is a western digital 250GB Sata2 drive.

My hardware is...
DFI Sli-DR Expert
Opteron 165
2GB Gskill ZX

Any help guys?

Have you checksum'd the .iso image you're burning? Perhaps it's corrupt. If the image checks out try burning the install disk again. If you're overclocked return the rig to stock speed.

EDIT: That error code corresponds to "Data error (cyclic redundancy check)"

Bios running on defaults.

As i said, image is fine burnt it 3 times all disks work on another machine.

Swop DVD drive out?

CRC definately refers to the fact that it can not read off the media / write the media (hard drive possible problem as well though I think it's definately the media).

Perhaps the disc won't read fully on your machine. You might need to burn the disc at the lowest speed to make it work.

As i stated, have used 2 DVD drives. 1 a DVDRom other is a DVDRW.

I have tried 3 copies of the DVD, i will try at a lower speed but seems very strange.

I have installed XP Pro and XP MCE 05 to the HDD before i booted off the Vista DVD.

The drive is like a week old, and came from OCUK.... :(

first set your bios to boot from cd and after restart boot to vista cd and install there. it shouldn't give you the error again
WHAT?!?!?!?

Look at the first image pal, as you can see the "Windows Boot Manager" Boot off with Vista DVD your self and you will see that.

My bios does boot CD first im not that stupid.

and everytime i boot up i press ESC > to then manually choose what device to boot from :p

Look that's a different thread all together.... ;)

Seriously though, I'm sure I used to get similar errors when I'd play with overclocks before installing Windows. I don't recall you mentioning it so far, but maybe reset your bios and try an install at stock.

My system also does this with the one DVD drive. I find that burning to a different media at a slower speed cures it for me.

Are you looking to dual boot with XP? If so, you should boot into XP, install Daemon Tools and then mount the vista.iso from there. Run the setup and it will copy all the relevant files from the .iso before re-booting to continue the Vista install.

This does work, it is how I installed my copy of Vista :)

I'm not sure if it will work if you try to upgrade the XP install you are currently in though, something to check out..

I will try this later....

Il rip my hdd out the caddy and hook up the dvdrw to it and burn another copy off the laptop.

No i wont be dual booting, single booting to start with... if i have problems get my MCE back on there. :D

It would work, but it's not really a good idea. You'd end up with a bit of a mess - the two OSes have changed a little too much.

NOW!!!!!!

I get this problem.

Gets to this screen

Goes all the way to the end and the machine reboots
