I have a windows XP laptop and an application on it corrupted somehow ( Activclient )

I tried to reinstall but got the above error, went to uninstall from add/remove but it wasn't there

tried to remove everything I can find manually, deleted main directory, searched for files using names I knew were part of it and deleted them, then used regedit to delete all registry entries I could find but am still having the same problem

any ideas ?

Thanks

first off regedit's search is completely useless
get registry commander or registry analyser

they will search properly
IF you still cant find stuff

get procmon , run it and then run the installer, it will show what reg keys / files it is accessing , you will find what is tricking it into thinking the app is still installed

thanks folks, tried the techguys page, some usefull info, found some other files / reg entries that I hhadnt shifted but still no good

will try those other reg search tools next

found more stuff with reg commander, cleared those but still same

tried procmon but there are millions of entries and I have no idea what I am looking for

With procmon u run it , run the app , find the app in the list , and filter it in

You will need to play with the filters, to select ONLY the app you want , it will take a sec or two
but you will get it

Windows Installer CleanUp Utility (Google for a download, a few locations/versions around)

Let it run and delete any entries it finds for that App. Has worked for me previously before when all else failed.
