Installing/fitting CPU onto MBoard

If you have a retail kit it should have a heatsink with pre applied paste.

CPU is fairly simple to install be it amd or intel :)

Is there only one way it goes on, or numerous?

Forgive my ignorance...it'll be the first PC I build from scratch. I have tinkered with many a PC, but never built from scratch.

The CPU can only go in one way round (same in both AMD & Intel motherboards) It should just drop in, close the CPU socket lever, job done. If it doesnt you may cause damage to the CPU or the board (or both). CPU coolers can be tricky to fit (some 3rd party ones are) but the stock CPU coolers are designed to be easy to fit.

Fitting the CPU is pretty simple, from the "geometry" of the CPU itself and the socket on the MB it's easy to work out which way it goes in. Also, don't panic when you hear a slightly nasty scratching sound when pushing the little lever of the CPU socket back down - this is natural, and it takes a bit of force to push the lever anyway.

Easy peasy :)

*important to note that the stock Intel fan/heatsink shown in the video has thermal paste pre applied, if your using a better 3rd party one chances are it wont be.

So you need to apply some of this stuff:

Just put a small pea/big grain of rice sized blob in the center of the cpu and install the fan.
The weight of the heatsink and heat built up will spread it for you.

Don't worry about it, seriously. :)
