Right.

Just taken delivery of New overclockersuk system - extreme gaming build. The GFX card has come uninstalled.

There are no clear instructions anywhere and I've never installed one before. It seems a bit odd that OCUK expect me to learn how to install a card using a Gainward gtx580 and a top of the line ASUS motherboard as my testing ground!

Anyone got any clear instructions on how to install it?

- Do I have to fiddle with the screws at the back of the case (Obsidian 650D)?
- How do I get the card into the motherboard without harming it?
- What are the two large cables hanging loose in the case for?
- What are the two large USB connections hanging loose at the back (external) of the case for?

Thanks for your help.

It's a bit dodgy shipping huge cards like that inside the case. Incase of damage in transit etc. It really is pretty simple.

Stick the card in the PCI-E slot nearest the CPU. It will prob be labelled. It has a little catch at the slot.

The dangly leads are probably from the PSU... these will power the card... plug them into it, they only go in one way.

P.S. You wont break it... these things are pretty robust and solid. Don't panic.

The catch could be the key. I think I missed that. The motherboard is an Asus P8Z68 DELUXE Intel Z68. GFX card is Gainward GTX 580.

One other thing, do I have to do anything with the screws that are on the empty backplate bit on the 650d?

I don't know that case personally. However virtually every single expensive case has a tool less PCI slot device. Usually a clip of some kind to keep cards in place. However I always prefer screws... just a lot tighter and easier.

Apart from that... that's you up and running.

P.S. You could always read the manual. I'm sure it covers PCI card installation into the case.
