At the moment i currently have 2gb of GeiL ddr2
I bought another 2gb of the exact same
when i install them my computer will turn on but doesnt boot up what so ever
the screen remains blank

any ideas?

I have the same problem. I have an Asus P5E-V HDMI motherboard, which is supposed to take a maximum of 8Gb. When I built it, I used 2x2Gb of Corsair XMS2 PC-6400 and it runs fine. I have just bought another two sticks to take it to 8Gb but this time by OCZ. I made sure the speed and latency were the same as the XMS2 but adding them means I don't even get a POST beep.

I'm considering swapping the RAM over to make sure the OCZ sticks work but after that I'm stuck.

Any suggestions much appreciated!

Boot with 2gb, go into BIOS, increase northbridge voltage slightly, shutdown, install other 2gb and power on again.

UPDATE

increased the north bridge by 0.04 and worked fine
computer recognises 4gb of RAM and so far so good
the only problem was a slight delay at the boot up?
Maybe i should increase it a bit more? im not sure

It might be called MCH voltage.

It was a hidden option in the AMI BIOS while the CPU set-up was set to anything other than manual so it took me a while to try various things before, I admit, I tripped over it. I did as Jordan282 did and increased the RAM voltage (as it's headed) from 1.800V to 1.804V and the system sprang into life.

Many thanks to everyone for their help. I would never have sorted this without you.
