Installing new 300GB drive: showing up as 31GB

Hi,

I've just installed a new 300GB samsung drive into my computer, but going into Disk Management to partition and format I notice it is only showing up as 31.49GB, and when you go to partition this is the capacity quoted.

Is there something I have done wrong?

Any help would be appreciated.

Windows XP, with SP2 and latest updates.

Stick the cd in and boot from in create the partition in there. Same thing happened to me and this was the only way to solve it.

Almost certainly a BIOS/ OS capacity limit. Check your motherboard on google for any limitations and bios upgrades/tweaks.

The motherboard is an ABit IC7-G

That'd also do it. Most big drives can be limited to 36GB via jumper setting.

Duh, how silly of me. I did look at the jumper settings for slave before installing it, but failed to notice there were two different slave modes, one limiting capitacy to 32GB.
