Just purchased a samsung f1 (comes tuesday) as my current hd has been playing up for a while (since i overfilled it.)

So when it arrives i'm gonna completely replace drives and probably start fresh with new drive so install windows and drivers directly instead of copying over hd completely.

Is this wise/sensible or would it be easier to just transfer data from old to new.

I have never installed an OS before as always bought premade pc's so will i have any problems? what should i do? any tips at all please.

It's really easy to install an OS. It would also be better to install OS and drivers instead of copy hard-drive over...Means u can start fresh on that drive too :)

My main concerns are drivers and whether or not il need to reenter any reg codes for any hardware i have cuz apart from my OS reg codes i received i havent any others.

You won't need any reg codes for hardware. Only software that you've paid for.

You should have no problems, as .Kencs rightly says, installing an OS from scratch, installing/ updating drivers and such is pretty easy if time consuming.

I actually find it fun!

I always reinstall windows when i get some new gear just make sure you can get back on the internet to get all the lastest drivers, you know all your components and lasty you have all your passwords safe and your ready to go. I Keep external drive filled with all my details, files and programs just for this purpose.:)

If you have a newish graphics card you'll most likely want to get the latest drivers from the maker's website be it ATI or NVidia or whatever.

Vista will probably set up most of you drivers but if you've got old hardware or want the latest drivers then you might have to look online.

Make sure to update Vista online as soon as you install.
