Installing Software Issues

Hi there, a friends laptop is having a bit of a problem. I am trying to install Itunes and AVG however both hang at the Configuring Product stage. It is a Dell Inspiron 1750 with 64bit Win7 home on it.

Any ideas?

Wait. If there's no change after an hour or so, run every diagnostic you can think of.

Waited ages and nothing really, gave an error code from Itunes. I got Malware bytes on it and it picked something up but now its clean, cant get AVG to check for viruses though.

Shes going away on Thursday so can't do a format as I don't have a CD/DVD to use

There should be a restore partition.

Just found the trojan.ransom virus on the machine... would this stop the installs? How can I get rid of as Malwarebytes ain't getting rid

Dunno. This might help you remove it though.
