Chaps I am getting a new laptop next week and I want to put an SSD in it straight away!

What's the best way to do this, install it before booting the laptop up at all or not?

If your laptop dosent come with any restore media then you may have to make your own. It usually prompts you when you first use the laptop.

Otherwise youll not be able to put windows on it :)

Could I install Windows on the laptop as it comes and then use a USB to SATA cable to mirror the original HDD to the SSD and swap them over?

cant see why it wouldnt work, use macrium reflect to clone your old drive to the new one,or paragon migrate if you know where to look

to do it youd have to keep old drive in laptop, plug new one via usb and clone old to new drive

If it were me I'd do a fresh install!

All I did was change to the AHCI setting that SSD's use and my Dell laptop picked up my Samsung SSD straight away and the Windows install just flew! :D

Also, there are a few tweaks that are useful but I can't remember exactly what - a quick Google should get you the results!

:DI fitted a Sansung 830 to my new lappy last weekend. Used Macrium Reflect to clone the HDD rather than Norton Ghost which came free with the SSD. Worked a treat, no problems whatsoever:D
