Hi,

I want Vista to run alongside Win XP. But when I go through the process and click "custom" for a fresh install, it tell me my old windows will not work. It wants to rename my windows folder to windows.old.

Why can't I instruct it to install in a folder called windows.new for example so I can dual boot?

I am running the installation of RC2 through Windows XP by the way.

Cheers. :)

OK I have installed it on to an old HDD.

Loving Vista tbh! :D

But I do not have the options to boot from XP. And I installed Vista on F:\ (from win XP perspective) but Vista sees the boot drive as C:\ not F:\.

My old XP boot drive C:\ is now seen as E:\.

Not sure what to do!

(EDIT FIXED!)

Sorry one last thing... I will get there in the end!

Vista was working fine. I have checked Win XP which is also fine. Now when I want to go back the Vista... it automatically goes into Setup... then it's pretty much a dead end as it's already installed!

Any ideas to make it default to Vista and not Vista Setup? I have tried F8 which only has the option to continue into Setup.

mine dual booted fine, you will need a seperate partition or drive, I booted from the cd and installed and now i just get an os selection screen on startup

Got them on seperate drives and I can boot in either XP or Vista (setup).

I want it to just boot up Vista not Vista setup. :(

Was just about to do some benchmarks and comparisons etc!

Can you install vistabootpro on the xp partition and run the diagnostics?
That sorted it on one of my virtual pc's but on my main pc I had to reinstall vista on the second partition.
Did you install vista to a primary partition or a logical? It doesn't seem to like logical.

Cheers for the tip mate. Vistabootpro has sorted it. I had to create a new option on the boot menu for Vista. :)
