If I was to install Vista RC1, how long would I be allowed to run it for? Can it be installed so that it doesn't touch my XP install at all, so that I can remove all traces of Vista if I wished?

I have got mine set up as a dual boot system, with vista on a seperate hard drive so my XP is unaffected.

iirc the licence is for up until march next year, so expensive upgrade or reformat for all those that have just upgraded XP.

is this available for all people or just developers?

is it stable?

Everyone, though you may have missed the (rather huge) windows for obtaining either a Beta or RC key. I'm sure someone could provide one however.

Yes, it's stable. Not 100% compatible with everything, but I certainly haven't crashed it yet.

Without meaning to offend, there have been numerous threads on Vista since the General Public Beta release, and a huge thread on this very board of a number of peoples experiences.
