Hello, I have just built a budget pc (specs below), and when I was buying everything I didn't include an internal DVD drive as i thought my external Qubz DVD drive would do the trick of installing Windows 7.

I have changed the BIOS settings priority to USB: DVD R but when i then restart the computer to install Windows it says:

"Reboot and select a proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot Media device and press a key"

Anyone have any suggestions? Do i need to get a new internal dvd drive?

Computer specs:

Asus M4A78LT-M LE AMD 760G (Socket AM3) Motherboard
Coolermaster Elite 430 Windowed Case - Black (with 500w Elite Power PSU)
AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 840 "95W Edition" 3.20GHz (Socket AM3)
OCZ Platinum 4GB 1333MHz Extra Low Voltage
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM

Thanks.

Do you have another machine you can create a USB boot stick on. Microsoft provide the software to convert the image of a Windows Disc onto a USB stick.

If not can you not just take the DVD Drive out of the external casing and connect it to the pc to do the install.

You could try going through the BIOS boot selection screen. That will ensure that the system is definitely trying to boot to the dvd drive.

It'll probably be F10 or F12 to access to boot selection screen.

I am franticly tapping F10/F12 but nothing shows up :( just loads the same screen again.

Think it may have to be acase of getting an internal or if you can get someone to create the USB boot stick as thats what I use when I reinstall or anything
