Installing windows 7 on dell xps m1330

I currently have vista on my laptop and would like to install windows 7 on it but my DVD drive doesn't work (when I put a disc in it just ejects it straight out)

I have an external DVD drive but can't get the laptop to Use the external drive as a boot device, any ideas how I can do it? Many thanks

Use a USB stick. It's what I did and it's now happily running W7 HP 64.

Will convert your disk to bootable USB stick

I used this for my Dell Inspiron 11z as that has no DVD drive, it installed W7 pro VERY quickly!

You should be able to boot from the external cd drive with this, have you specified it in the bios or tried selecting it with the f12 boot option?
