Hi i recently bought a new SSD and have installed it into my PC, i am trying to install windows on it and wanted to know the easiest way i can do it. I have a ISO file for windows 8.1 and have put it into the SSD local files on my computer and tried running it, but once the restart happens it says that the installation has failed. I don't have a DVD to burn to and my USB is broken so i can't use these options.

Thanks, Sam

with no DVD drive or USB port you don't have many options at all

do you have windows installed on the SSD already or is it empty?

do you have a second HDD at all? (not the SSD) or the original HDD with a OS on?

where did you get your ISO from for 8.1?

Yeah i have my hard drive which i have been using with windows 7 on it, but i wanted to make the SSD my primary drive and put windows 8 onto it, then i would remove windows from the hard drive as i don't want to dual boot.

The SSD is completely empty atm. I get free software from my university for being on a computing course.

Thanks, Sam

Sorry for being rude but your on a computing course at university? and you didn't know how to do this?

Anyway, the only way you can do it is burn the ISO to a DVD or a USB and boot from these to install windows to your SSD.

Did i specify what kind of computing course? Since when do they teach modules titled installing Windows 8.1 with an ISO when you have no CD drive or USB device? FYI my course is mainly based around coding, not installing software...

Apologies but I assumed someone who would be studying at university level could install Windows.

You have no CD drive yet have said you are going to use your Windows 7 disk and install that on the SSD and then upgrade? Seems odd.

Anyway, good luck with your course. I myself study Computer Science.
Hope you get your computer sorted and can enjoy the SSD, they really are great!
Apologies once again for being rude.

Installing windows wasn't the problem, the problem was resolved before anyone gave any solutions, i just wanted to know if i could use the ISO rather than removing the SSD again (after just installing it) and plugging it into someone elses PC. There must be a way to do it somehow but i thought it would probably be quicker doing it the way i did it.

In the end i just did that, installed windows onto that using the CD i had, then plugged it back onto mine. Works fine now. Just need to format a 2TB hard drive :(

Sorry if i seemed a bit annoyed earlier and thanks for the help.
