Installing Windows on a new laptop?

Not really no. A laptop is still a PC regardless. There are drivers built into XP install which will work in at least some sort of compatability mode for the basics (graphics, usb, motherboard).
Only recommendation I would have would be to get your drivers downloaded BEFORE you begin and burn them on a cd or similar. Especially if its the only machine you have to access the net for them. Things like network cards/wifi dont always run straight after an install without the proper manufacturers drivers which could leave you stuck for getting on the net and getting them (a catch 22 if you will)
