Dell currently have their i7 XPS with Ubuntu down to £999, and with me student discount I can get another £100 off that. This seems like a great deal to me, although I'll need Windows for a little gaming.

Presumably, if I buy Windows I can put the .iso on a USB stick, boot into it, and install it easily? Or has Dell locked down the bootloader?

That's a good deal indeed. Subbed as if it's possible I'll probably pick one up too.

04/17/2017 10:33:04AM ME: "Hey there, I'm looking at the "XPS 13 (9360)" but would like to know if it's possible for me to install my own operating system (Windows) and that the boot loader isn't locked down for example?"
04/17/2017 10:33:18AM Agent: "ned to check that email you"
04/17/2017 10:33:44AM ME: "Hello, that would be great, the deal ends tomorrow so would appreciate a quick response if possible :)"
04/17/2017 10:34:53AM Agent: "myemailaddresshere"
04/17/2017 10:35:14AM ME: "Hi, yep, that's the correct email address"
04/17/2017 10:36:34AM Agent: "asap"
04/17/2017 10:36:41AM Agent: "i wil check and send"
<end session>

I don't hold out much hope for a reply before tomorrow when the deal is supposed to expire..

Well, as expected, Dell didn't get back to me regarding the above chat.

I tried to order yesterday with around 30mins to go before the deal ended but the price just went back to the default £1179 after adding to basket.. :/

On Chat to Dell again to see if they'll honour the price as I took a few screenshots of the issue.
