Hey guys,

I reported what I thought was a hardware problem here yesterday: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17669784

But after having a look and clearing the CMOS I’m now sure that it is a software fault :(

The machine gets as far as Check Disk each time, completes a scan and then briefly gives a BSOD before restarting…

This process would probably repeat itself indefinitely if you let it!

I’ve tried Safe Mode/Last Know Good Config etc but all fail or freeze before Windows is loaded.

So we set about reinstalling Windows, I was going to install Windows on top of the current install because my mate hadn’t bothered to backup his HD for about the last 10 months, but after getting to the Windows agreement and searching for previous installation etc we get another Blue Screen:

BAD_POOL_CALLER

0x000000C2 (0x00000043 0xC3124000 0x00000000 0x00000000)

SO it doesn’t look like I can install Windows anyway

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

SW.

Hey, thanks for the reply!

I had a little Google earlier too :)

He's got onboard sound, so I'm pretty sure it’s not that? He's using two RAM modals though, so I might give that a go. Try running one at time, see if it'll boot etc before I star trying to reinstall stuff...

I've tried new RAM and exactly the same problem persists :(

Does this problem sound like it could be the fault of the CPU or even the hard drive?

They're probably going to be investigated next...

I've only ever seen that error with bad RAM. Try memtest :)
Good idea ;)

A straight swap with new RAM gave the same error though - I guess it could even be the motherboard?

Cheers,

I've had probs like this before. my first port of call is disabling all the onboard periphs in the bios then running the install.

wants windows is on just enable them again, let it install drivers and away you go.

might work for you
