Ok ive just had my sapphire x1950gt delivered and i was reading the installation instructions, the instructions says that after ive installed the card i should run the windows disk and let i do its stuff followed by the card installation disc.........now i would just normally uninstall the current drivers, fit the card, and install the new drivers - why the need for the windows disc ?

it shouldnt need it but and i think it only counts for old os's but sometimes when hardware is installed the windows cd is needed because of none default dll files from the windows cd being needed.
just get rid of old drivers install new card and install new ones and it should be fine

Ok so would the correct procedure for installing the card go like this
1. Remove old drivers
2. Turn off pc
3. Remove old card
4. Fit new card
5. Turn on pc
6. install new drivers
Just want to make sure im doing it correctly to ensure a hassle free install

I think Dotnet is for the Catalyst Control Center (CCC). If you don't install CCC, I don't think you need it, but don't quote me on that as I have been using Nvidia upto now.
Just do as suggested by teulk and you'll be fine

Add/Remove, un-install drivers and CP (or the CCC if your using it), reboot into safe mode, run DriverCleaner pro and reboot normally, cancel the Found New Hardware Wizards, download and install the .NET Framework (required for the Catalyst Control Centre, or CCC), then install latest drivers.
or if you don't want to use the CCC for all your AA/AF etc... settings, then just do the Add/Remove as above but dont bother with the .NET, just download the latest Display Drivers on their own from the ATi site (without the CCC etc...), and download and install ATi Tray Tools which you can use to do all your AA/AF settings instead, and more besides.

I noted that when using tray tools, I couldn't the extra voltages that Ati Tool offers, which is why I tried it in the first place.
Not sure which I prefer, AT wins on extra config, ATT wins on ease of use and better profile management i think. (last time I looked)

First question is : How well ventilated is your case?(describe it, including fans, or just give the make and model). Also what is the ambient temperature in the room?
Doesn't seem to be bad, but mine will idle lower and mine runs higher frequencies with what I think is a worse cooler (i assume you have the '1950pro' cooler?)
Most importantly... what temperature are you getting when it's on load?

I have no idea tbh what cooler is on it, i have sapphire x1950gt agp. Under load (playing joint ops) i dont think its a too demanding game it was running at 51. I have 2x80mm fans at the front and 1X120m at rear plus the PSU fan . At the moment the side is off my case as i havent put it on since fitting the card yesterday. Im going to run BF2 in a few mins and see what i get on that.

Yup good temps
Would get the panel back on the side though and see how it does. The GPU cores tend to run cool on pro/gt models, but the VRM's hot. If you don't get any issues don't worry about it as your temps are very good. I however you get crashes and screen corruption, then aim a fan at the VRM's near the back of the card (where you plug the extra connector in basically).
EDIT: BTW.. your gonna be pretty safe to overclock that card to pro settings of 575 on the core. That will really help out with your frame rates on the gt
As a goal... one member on here was getting over 10,000 in the 3D mark05 benchmark (not 06). I don't get much above that with my XT!!!
