installing xbox games

Worth it purely to get rid of the DVD drive noise. Makes most games load faster too (most noticeable exception is Halo 3's multiplayer).

I generally have games I play often (Rock Band etc) installed permanently, then I install new releases when I get them, and delete games I'm finished with.

Mainly for the reasons that Memphis stated, DVD drive noise and load times. :)

It is worth it.I install every game I get to the hard drive. If I get rid of the game i'll delete it.
Buying the 120gb hard drive was a good idea really!

I install my games that I regularly play on. A big install is around 10GB I think so you should be getting at least 10 or so games on your HDD. Loading is apparently faster but I just do it so my console is much quieter and cooler. ;)

I'm pretty sure the maximum is about 6.5gb.

Like most in this thread I install all my new games and keep ones I always play installed, i.e Fifa 10 and RB2. So much quieter and some of the load times are excellent.

In a console update since installation was introduced they changed the compression method to be more efficient.

If you re install those 10GB games you should find that they're much smaller. :)

i had gears of war 2 installed for a couple of weeks while i played it a lot, but i only have the 20gb hard drive, so i cant install anything really

Always - and I'm very happy to see that Crackdown has had a patch which now allows it to be installed, too. That game used to thrash the DVD drive to buggery.

Always do it these days. Xbox is near silent when I install it and like to thing it prolongs the life of the laser in the DVD drive.

I have the 60gb had drive and always have my 4 or 5 most played games installed to stop the noise of the dvd drive - I assume making the xbox work less will help preserve its lifetime. Would be nice if I didnt have to install them but the noise is way OTT fo rmy liking :(

Im glad microsoft released the patch so that install games are smaller now - I was considering getting the 120 gb hard drive before hand...

Its a no brainer nowadays. Eversince the summer NXE update the disk images are smaller now as the duplicate DVD data is removed so for instance Tomb Raider Anniversary went from 6GB + to 3GB now. Dark Sector is only 1.5GB etc etc. Biggest I've seen is 6.7GB as that appears to be the limit for a single DVD. Also, the 120GB HD has a slightly bigger cache which reduces loading time slightly as well.
