Installing XP as dual boot on Vista

you need to have 2 separate partitions. these can both be on the same disk or you can use 2 disks. entirely up to you.

xp must be installed first. you then run vista setup from within windows xp and it will automatically setup a dual boot menu for you when you start your pc. pretty easy really. :)

edit: beaten.... :p

also id recomend using vista itself to format the partition (u can create the partition via alternative software)
only reason i say this is that i used acronis disk director to do mine however after the install it kept coming up with corrupt disk errors all over the shop. Turns out that it was due to the way that acronis and other 3rd party apps were formatting the disk  sounds strange i know however a reinstall later and all was well again (after using the vista disk to format the partition)

just something ive come across on my own setup :)

this is a known problem certainly from other acronis users

Never had any problem using Acronis products and installing Vista. That is with 2 IDE drives and 1 SATA.

i found it hard to believe myself but a google search on corrupt disk errors revealed that it was acronis at fault  must only be in certain configurations tho
im on sata only 250 right down the middle, on my old ide raid setup during the rc1 and 2 stages it installed fine using acronis
just one of those things to watch out for in case corrupt disk errors pop up :)
