hello
because i am a student, for some reason my college has some deal with microsoft to let us download free software (its all 100% legit). Anyway, i downloaded the .iso of windows xp pro. But the only way i can install it is if i already have a windows OS installed.

I also have a 2000 pro disk (100% legit as well), but its a propper disk. the xp pro was a .iso that i burned to a disk. i can install that as normal.

i installed 2000, then ran the xp pro disk and chose install, not upgrade but new installation (it was the only thing i could do really other than upgrade...). I did this, it restarted, and it was kinda like normally when you put a boot disk in. i tried to delete the partition i installed 2000 on (C;\) but it said that installation files were on there. i carried on anyway. it completed, it worked, but when istarted my computer up i got the option of running 2000 or xp. So i tried installing it again, but this time when still in 2000 when i chose full new installtion i made sure to put the file in another drive (h:\), thinkign i would be able to format c:\ (where 2000 was, and this new installtion of xp as well). AGain it started up etc, but when i tried to delete that partition (c:\) (to make a new one) it said it couldn't because of the installtion files are on it. Again i installed it anyway. And now when i start up i get the option of XP Pro, XP Pro, or 2000 Pro.

HOW CAN I INSTALL IT FROM BOOT UP!! :P

(yes, its set up right in bios etc. it just doesn't see my xp disk (burnt from a .iso) as abootable disk. In the disk , when i look at it in windows (currently running latest installation of xp pro...), the following files are in the root:
autorun
readme
setup
setupxp
win51
win51ip
win51ip.sp2

and the following folders:
docs
dotnetfx
i386
support
valueadd

hope i've provided as much info as possible. i know it isn't the clearest things to understand what i've written. hope you guys get what i mean though
(ps, i've also obv got the xp pro serial (and 2000 as well))
cheers

The only thing i just thought of was that I used a program (forgot what it is called) to extract the files from the .iso to a folder, then copied everything from within that folder to a cd drive and let XP home (on anothjer computer) write the files

Hmm, I highly doubt they managed to get that deal from Microsoft..?

Anyway,

Put the disk in, boot up to the Windows XP Pro setup. Format or delete the C:\ partition. Install Windows from there onwards.
