ok I bought my GF a 26" LCD for christmas - nothing amazing - she wouldnt really notice HD etc .....

Anyways as to fitting everything nice and neat. I would like some advice on the problems we have.

The tv source is via NTL and on of those nice (!) set top boxes/broadband combo things... this is in the other side of the room and the tv will be kinda opposite (10 metres) around door etc etc....

what will be the best way to hook this up - unfortunately she just installed laminate flooring as well ! so no cables underneath - and the TV is going to sit on a fireplace.

Ntl --> tv is Via scart
NTL --> wireless router ....
TV Power lead (pc kettle style) --> plug on floor

the problem is hiding the cable round the ceiling / doors / fireplace....
is there any kind of video sender etc for the NTL box so I dont have to put metres of wire around the house ?

Any pictures of your installs would be very welcome.

A few things really:

A lot of manufacturers (apparaently) void your warranty of the television if it's placed above a fireplace

Bear in mind the tv is likley to get way to hot directly above a fireplace

The tv is often too high when above a fireplace

Wireless video senders tend to be pretty rubbish. Im am not sure as to whether you will get good results with a 10m scart cable though, the signal degradation is likely to be quite substantial. You would be far better moving the NTL box over to near the tv (there is no problem with extending the coax that comes through the wall to the ntl box).

I would however suggest thinking twice before mounting a £x00 LCD that gets hot itself directly above a heat source.

yeah thanks for those points.... (cant post the picture of her fireplace just yet)

its an electric fire --- which really blows outwards via fan .... ive held me hand above fireplace which sticks out quite far - its a fire surround so not directly above a fire as such .... and the tv will just sit on the top ... and is sheltered really - so there wont be a heat problem... the problem is the routing of the cables.

The main problem is the NTL junction box is in one corner of the room -

[ -----fireplace------ ]
[DOOR UNIT ] unit is a little cabinet on the floor with
[ NTL decoder in it - and DVD player

lol modern graphics.... so the NTL box has a 10 meter coaxial lead which will go left along the wall.... around the door ... round the fireplace to the unit... then unit to TV will have scart / power lead which will be only 3 meters.... this is the problem you see..... the NTL box can only be moved to say further forward on the outside wall but will still need to go a few meters to the unit ... all be it straighter.

trying to convince her to move site of TV - but nope !
Just wondering how to hide the cables sufficiently.... am I really gonna have to sink them into the wall?!?!
