Next time you curse the person in front of you for not holding the door open, or that motorist for not letting you out of that busy junction, think back to this thread and realise it's probably because they're fed up with putting themselves out to help other people who think that manners "don't matter". ;)

I think you're missing the point. If you are willing to hold the door open for someone, then you do so out of kindness, not because you expect to be thanked.

No-one needs to thank me, and I'll continue to hold the door open for people irrespective. The fact that I personally thank people is moot.

What's the point in kindness if people don't even notice it?

Every time I perform a random act of kindness, I immediately kick myself for it, and tell myself they don't deserve it, and not to do it again, I'm sure eventually it will sink in :p
