Ive had 6 lessons, I had my first one on the 14th of june, Ive got

The offical DSA Theory test for car drivers book, september 05 edition
A dvd called roadsense (I think its a HPT one)
DSA Learning to drive DVD (With some guy who looks like a blue peter presenter whose overly enthusastic about everything)
And a cd with mock theory tests on (results below)

As you can see ive gotten better since taking lessons.

Now as I have time off from college till september and my instructor says he thinks i'm ready I really want to push on and pass before they add 15 more questions to the theory test.

So any helpful forum posts here I should read? Any web pages I should read? Any advice for studying? I'd be greatful for any help or advice you can offer

Thanks!

It's the most patronising test you'll sit in your life. You don't need books, DVD's or study aids.
^^

I read the Highway Code, but didn't really need to to pass.

You are only failing on "Road and Traffic Signs", "Rules of the Road", "Safety Margins" and "Vehicle Handling". You should easily be able to pass as a Taxi driver :)

I did one on Saturday morning, quite tipsy from the night before still, stupid of me, but I still managed 35/35 and 69/75 in hazard.

It has got to be the most mickey mouse test I have done - this is my second time doing it, though so I knew what to expect. Didn't read a single line of text for both!

i did months of practise ones before i took mine. Purely for *** fact i didnt want to arse about failing the theory as i wanted to pass asap. I pritty much knew all the questions off by heart by the time i took mine, and passed first time :) Long as your confident you can pass go for it. Dont let him pressure you into doing it, because it'l cost you if you fail.

I passed my theory test before I took any lessons.

Oh and by the way the Theory test is going to be 50 questions from 3rd September.

The night before my theory test I did not know what the national speed limit sign was, but I still passed easily.

I'm surprised people take lessons before passing their theory test, there is no need at all to have driven before taking it, and given the time it can take to get test dates for both you can easily end up wasting time and money on lessons when you're already prepared to pass.

edit: messed up what I meant completely.

?????

the theory really is just common sense

the driving test you need to learn car control

edit , ah i think you mean no lessons needed before passing theory test ?

if so i agree , thats how i did it

I passed my theory today and I havent had a single driving lesson. Infact I only revised yesterday for about 3 hours and that was it. Two thirds of it is common sense and then just try and learn the signs.

Just echoing everyone elses comments really.. passing your theory is a painfully easy process which left me questioning what the point of it actually was.

I think a test should be introduced that actually asks people what action they would take in certain circumstances - may be worth doing then.

Are there any figures published for national pass rate - everyone here seems to say it was very very easy and passed first time (those that didn't are keeping quiet?). So what's the national pass rate?

Well thats easy as you can drive!!!

Lets be fair, if you dont know then you have to learn it! Its not a genetic thing that you are born with and the highway code does need to be learned.

To the OP I get all my pupils to get a current copy of the highway code at less than £2 and the driving test success DVD at around £10 or less for the current 2007 version.

I then tell then just to do lots of mock tests checking their answers when they get a Q wrong.

Usually they have to book the theory test before they get off their butts and do the work for it! The threat of endless expensive high quality lessons with no practical test usually motivates them :D

Like everything, Its easy if you do the work, Boring I know but it need to be done.

As for the national pass rate why? All your interested in is will you pass :D

If your sitting your pratical test then its 100% of candidates that have passed the thory first :D

The hazard perception is the part you need to practise for, simply to get the timing of the clicks right. Too early and you miss the scoring zone altogether, too late and you'll likely only get 1 or 2 out of 5.

Too make sure that all the natural born drivers out there actually read and hopefully understand the highway code etc.
