Hi all,

Just a quickie. How would I go about doing the above on the cheap? It's literally a board in a hole so not a posh hatch.

Suggestions say insulation in a bag strapped to the hatch but I'm not sure if this is safe or not.

Thanks
Kirbz

That's exactly how my loft hatch thing was done when we moved in and it was done by an insulation company so guess it can't be too bad.

Also, a bit of draft excluder round the edge to prevent any drafts round it too.

Adding draft excluder where the hatch sits made a big difference to ours (already had insulation strapped to the top of it)

I used some of that loft insulation that comes in a plastic wrapper for easy laying. I just folded it over to make it into a pillow shape, and then staple-gunned it to the hatch.

Then I used some insulation strip around the edge of the hatch. Not the foam stuff, but the rubber stuff that has a hollow "D" shape running through it. It lasts longer and can be folded into an L-shape to go into the corners.

I glued some 40mm kingspan to it, but it's only because I have loads of it i'm trying to use up. Can't say if it has made any difference as it's not been cold enough to tell yet, but should be better than just a piece of plywood.

I used Celotex when I did mine earlier in the year. Thread reminds me I still haven't fitted draft excluder.

Just had my loft insulated for free under the CSCO scheme and they put draft excluder around the loft hatch too. Which was nice of them.

Hi Guys,

Sorry for not posting I forgot I had made this thread.

Thanks for all the advice. The polystyrene route looks the easiest and possibly the cheapest. I may have some draught excludes somewhere but they are dirt cheap anyway.
