Hello OCuk Forum :)

So i have a predicament where i have an oil leak on my car due to the rocker cover having a crack in it, tried fixing but the epoxy has only lasted a few weeks.

New Genuine Fiesta 1.3 part is £288
Ford KA 1.3 rocker cover which fits but means i can't us a stock air filter £35.

I have just got a quote for my second years insurance at £631 a year, i'm currently paying £1200.

How much of a difference has modifications made to your insurance ?

Using a non stock air filter will make the grand total of **** all difference I'd have thought but either way just run a quote with it declared as a mod and find out.

Why would you declare that to insurance anyway? It's hardly strapping a twin turbo to the engine now is it.

are insurance companies that bothered.
i had a saxo vts years ago, tastlyfully modified in the day, never declared anything.
got written off in an accident. nothing said.

I heard if you don't declare it you are voiding your insurance.

Hang on hang on... Why are you buying a new rocker cover in the first place?

Buy a second hand Fiesta 1.3 rocker cover from a breaker, make sure it has no cracks in it, fit it with a new gasket, job done, and all issues avoided.

Can't get hold of one, lots of engines like mine but breakers or scrapyards won't sell the cover separate.

Don't want to buy a whole engine

Get phoning round some local breakers these aren't exactly rare cars so there's got to be one knocking around with an intact rocker cover that means you won't have to mess around.

Edit: Times must have changed, last time I went to a breakers they let you loose and just told you to bring any bits you'd stripped off back and they'd price them up.

that will be my next step but the people i have contacted on ebay who are breakers won't let me buy it seperate
