Surely though, it is the sacrifice that a man has to make in order to purchase a ring that is important?

I would have to save for years to afford a 30k ring, and my GF would then know that I love her as I made all that effort. If I was a millionaire and bought a 1k ring, which is effectively loose change, then there is no sacrifice and it doesn't mean that I put much effort into buying it?

I would have thought the fact you proposed would be enough to show your love for them. After all lots of people have got engaged with bits of string/plastic rings.

It's a 3 carat I believe he said, which yep is pretty big - but not stupidly huge!

Went to the jewellers today, and they had a 3.04 carat diamond ring in, yes it did look stupidly huge! The woman put it on her finger and it just looked rather cumbersome and somewhat chav:s
