Hi,

Question about insuring travel for some amount of money on my name vs what insurer gives me after i had to cancel my trip.

Bought holidays for me and my SO for 4000, insured myself only for 3000 due to various reasons, had to cancel trip for reasons admitedly from my side.
Travel provider correctly issued cancel invoice with 0 pounds return to me , but insurer only wants to return only 2000 (my ticket price) despite me insuring it for 3000 and paying for that amount on insurance policy.

I do not know who's in right here: me thinking I should get 3000 or insurer only returning my ticket price? On insurance I have 3000 as cancellation amount. And there is no mention about what my holidays part of cost - just specifies amount insured due to cancellation as 3000.
Been made aware of certain development and had to cancel literally day before flight..

Your ticket cost £2000, the insurer paid out £2000.
The other half isn’t relevant as it wasn’t your name on the ticket and that person would need to pursue it through their insurer if they have one.

Pretty simple really :)

Now the question has been answered, let the witch hunt begin, would be interested to know what the "various reasons" were for not spending an extra £20 to either get joint cover or a second individual cover :p

HAha.

OP, in tort, the principle of compensation is to put the claimant back where he was before the incident. It is not for profit. You have to prove your losses with evidence. If it is general damages such as psychological then your claim is not from the insurance, but the airline, if the airline was at fault. If the reason is not the fault of the airline then you can go sue the person who made you unable to make your trip. The insurance is not for that, that is just for the losses that can be accounted for, with receipts.

If you want money for your OH's ticket, she needs to be covered under the policy. You can't claim for her loss if she isn't covered.

So they paid you back for the insured ticket.. Excellent and?

SO didnt want insurance? guess you learn a lesson.

I rarely buy insurance for what its worth.

I just get annual travel insurance, it's about £80 for a year (exc US and winter sports). It's already paid for itself this year when I dropped a camera in Japan. Only a "cheap" one and claimed for £300 and was paid inside a week.

Same reason he paid 3k and she only paid 1k I guess

Jesus, I wonder how some folk get to adulthood with so little common sense.
Believe it or not, got really deep into that without even once requiring any insurance payouts, also - 'this is a weird world we live in'. It was something that travel provider hinted may happen, because reason for cancellation was not exactly happy one.. Nevermind thou, got answer I needed.
