Insurance for missed travel

Believe it or not, got really deep into that without even once requiring any insurance payouts, also - 'this is a weird world we live in'. It was something that travel provider hinted may happen, because reason for cancellation was not exactly happy one.. Nevermind thou, got answer I needed.
you're insurance provider most certainly did not hint they would pay you out more than they are required to - i'd imagine that's just something you've mistakenly thought. all that said, it sounds like the reason for cancellation was unpleasant/upsetting so you have my sympathies.

Fail, asked question to get answer and couldn't care less of what you think of me. You are not important enough to my life to care.
Candour for candour...
to be fair, they weren't having a pop at you. it's just that it's not uncommon for someone to post a thread, thinking the vast majority will support their opinion but then 'vanish' when that turns out not to be the case.

To be fair some industries including insurance can be quite unscrupulous in a flirting the line kind of way - I've worked places before which had no problem misleading people as long as they could be sneaky about it so as to stay within the word of regulations, etc.

Before this devolves and gets locked, a couple additional points that may be useful.

1) As mentioned and joked about already in this thread, this type of insurance usually operates on a “make them whole” approach, so there is no advantage to insuring yourself for more than you could potentially lose, it will only increase the amount of premium you pay for the policy.

2) Couples travel insurance policies exist and are usually cheaper than 2 individual policies

3) If you paid for items other than your flight that you lost because of the cancellation (e.g. hotel) this may also be covered depending on your policy.

Edit
Free bonus tip: This applies to renewing your car insurance too. If you take an insurance renewal they will likely not allow for the annual depreciation of the car. You will be paying for a limit they will never pay. This is also important for those people with appreciating cars.

Aye, my wording wasn’t the best. Ultimately though they were never going to pay out more than they actually legally had to.

Thresholds were 'less than my ticket cost' and 3000. Chosen 3000..
Couple insurance was not obtainable to me at time of purchase.
Not applicable in this instance.

Few years back I have read about someone who won against car insurer by provididg current car adverts for same car that were way above what insurer claimed this car was worth, but agree - those would be few and far between.. At the same time - if you conciously chose to value your car less that you think - wouldn't it be indicator to insurer to lower payout even more..?? Messy business...
