Could someone offer some insight onto a query of mines.

I started off with the VFR750, I obtained a full years NCD from the company I insured with, My second year of riding I went to the Daytona and changed insurers.

Recently I lost a load of documents so had to re-apply for the NCD certs. to which the chap advised me my NCD only lasts for 2 years.

So the question is, how do I build up NCD?

Does it have to be done with one vehicle or one insurer?

I have effectively 2 years NCD and claim free riding.

One insured through H&R the other MCE

It depends who your insured with,I have 9+ years ncd I came from mce to bennetts, just tell them howmany years you have, normally they send you a letter with the amount of ncd,you then forward it to new insurer

im just confused as to what happens after it has expired. my MCE doc says 1 year ncd, so does the H&R but the H&R one expires in nov. so would basically look like I only have the one,

It shouldn't expire, only if you make a claim, how on earth you gonna build up a ncd if it keeps expiring? Plus it travels with you from insurance firm to insurance firm

If that's the case ditch h and r and insure both with mce, either two seperate policies or both on a multibike policy,it will be cheaper

Sorry i forgot to mention I now only have the daytona. My first year was with the honda VFR and H&R this ended November 2010 I then swapped the vfr for the dayton and insure it with MCE and this insurance ran until november 11.

Here is what is shown on MCE doc so they say it entitles me to one year so either they dont include my first year and have to prove it with my H&R insurance.

We can confirm that at expiry of the above numbered policy the Insured was entitled to a No Claims Discount as
shown below.

Date of expiry: 05/12/2011

Number of years entitlement: 1 years

My understanding was the H&R policy ended giving me the 1 year NCD I went to MCE who i then obtained another they would then say I had 3 years ncd. and if i changed to say carol nash and got a further year it would then be them who said I have 3

I think no claims expires after 2 years if no insurance policy is held but thats it. If you have insurance it'll still be valid. Or should be.

I would request a letter from h and m showing proof of one year ncd, then tell mce you have proof and you should have an extra year ncd,amd send them a photocopy of h and m ncd letter

You give your 1year NCD with H&R to MCE, you. Then will never need that H&R document again. When you finish this year with MCE (assuming you switch. Insurers again), MCE will give you a new document stating you have two years NCD, which you then give to your new insurer and so on.

If you have no insurance you keep your NCD extricate and most insurers will accept it for upto two years after your insurance has expired.

This is what I thought the practice was and only expired if you didnt use it.

Cheers will phone MCE and see why the letter only states one

Why did you request a replacement certificate? That's what I don't get, you only need it in between insurances.

By the sounds of it you haven't finished your 2nd year at MCE, which is why it hasn't got two years on it.

My MCE insurance ended 5/12/2011 I took out a policy with a different company as my 3rd year of insurance was going to be nearly double with mce. so I let the policy end. but had never received a NCD cert so called up and they emailed a new one. so I could send it to my new insurers, this is what alerted me to the 1 year on the cert
