My insurance renewal on my old car came through on the 4th of dec, at the time i was looking to buy a new car so kept my old one insured to use until i got a new car. I got a new car on the 22nd and wanted to change the policy over, but this shot the price up to double. From £515 a year to £1050.

So i went to another insurance company for my new car which i got for £726, leaving me with 2 cars on separate policies. I want to cancel the insurance on my old car as its being sold, but would i have to pay the entire policy off or just an admin charge or something?

Also my new insurance company want proof of my ncb, would i be ok sending my renewal document through, even though the policy on my old car hasn't ended yet?

Cancelling first policy should just require an admin charge of some value.

You should have recieved a "proof of ncb" from your first policy, as well as a renewal reminder. You can ask your first insurer for it, or possibly simply direct your second insurer to your first insurer, quoting your policy number.

You might have a problem there as you've claimed your no claims bonus twice for a short period.

Anyway, cancel the old policy straight away. Cancellation terms will be shown in your keyfacts document and/or in the policy booklet. At the same time you cancel - ask for evidence of no claims bonus as you might need that if the following fails: -

Send the renewal notice from the old policy to the new insurers and hope they accept it.

after the policy has started (for certain), i cant see how a policy being renewed would be different to a new policy starting... he'll need to speak to his own insurer

I did have a quick look in my documents but couldn't see anything regarding cancellation charges, i'll look again though. Was just wondering what other people have paid, to give me a rough guess. I'll send the renewal document and see if anything comes from it.
