Right,

Basically passed my test yesterday (yay!) and it's come to buying insurance.

Quick question however.

Since I'm only 17 no where will let me pay monthly. So what I'm woundering is will anyone let the policy be in my mothers name but allow me (a named driver) to earn NCD and be the main driver?

Or any other ideas how I can get the option of monthly payments without my mother fronting (rather not have my insurance voided!).

Ta

Congratulations on passing your test. I dont think you can get away with it with any company. Also you will not earn NCB.

The best thing to do is to save up, or borrow from your parents and pay them back. How long is it before your 18? Can't be that long unless you learnt and passed your test super quick!

I'd also consider doing the pass plus course, this will save you tons of money on insurance and will give you some good experience.

Yeah,

Erm 18 in October. But I have a car sitting outside and pay day is coming up so as you can imagine I don't fancy waiting!

Just me being hopefull really - I can use eCar as they have a monthly policy (ie new policy every month). However thats £300 p/m. Where as direct line (for example) Would be £175 a month.. (after a biggish deposit).

eCar will let me take policy out in parents name and have me as main driver. However they want 3k! Where as direct line etc are around £2-2.2k. (Waits for someone and trash my thread with more crap out insurance and how I shouldnt pay that much etcetc)

You can't have a policy in your Mum's name but with you as the main driver because it would have to be in your name.

Under 18 = can't have a credit agreement legally in your name so it's a monthly policy or borrow the money from a friend/family member, you can't get a credit agreement legally. End of.

Also as has been said so many times before get your own policy, fronting is lame, illegal and increasingly in the event of a claim insurance co's are looking into your named drivers other veichles and declared usage. Also in a claim you screw your parents as they then have to declare your claim. Nothing wrong with adding your mum as a 2nd driver though and the premium will probably go down as a result ..

Like I said, I'm not trying to front my policy :o

Appearently you can.. eCar site lets me  Although, Like I said the price is through the roof so it's not much help :p

Hehe, thinking about it, I don't know why they did give it to me, as has been said, they shouldn't have given it to me.

Sorting insurance when young is a pain though, costs are silly and not everyone can afford the silly prices they charge as a lump sum. :(

Good luck sorting it out though. :)

I'm not trying to rain on your parade after passing your test but this reads as though you are trying to front. Let me explain, so far you've told us :

1) You have a car sat outside.
2) You say you want to earn NCB on a policy held by your mother with you named as an additional driver (based on point one, that's on your car).
3) You then say you don't want to front your policy....

If you don't want to front why are you trying to have your mum as the principal driver on what you've lead us to believe is your car ? If you aren't going to be the main user then this is fine, go with direct line etc. but if you are going to be the principal user of what you've inferred is your car then you need to be the principal driver or you're fronting.

Um....because he wants to pay monthly, which should be impossible at 17 due to credit rules. That's all. He doesn't want to front in order to get a cheaper policy.

At least, that's my take on it.

Aslong as you are road legal you should be able to get pay monthly, with reguards to policy holder on the documents, most insurance companies systems can pick up on fronted policies and charge accordingly, so say there is a policy with a mother and her son on there, one of the questions asked when setting up a policy is have you got use of another car, if the mother answers yes and the son answers no then it will start the ball rolling on a fronted policy review, so then questions such as how often you use the car, what does your son use the car for etc etc would be asked,

best option if you ask me is to ask your parents to set up a direct debit on her bank if the insurance companies wont let you have one due to your age, and then pay your parents back monthly

That's exactly it. :)

Can't because the policy is in my name. Hence the 'credit' is in my name. :(

Will ask mum about getting a 0% card that I can put it on and pay back. ( About as likely as winning the lottery I fear!)

doesnt matter. most insurance companies will set up a direct debit with the policy holder over the phone, if you got a 3rd party payer all that happens is they send you a direct debit mandate and you get the payer to fill it in.

loads of people parents pay for their kids insurance for the first few years due to the price being so high
