Insurance question

It has nothing to do with discrimination. Its all about the risk you pose as a younger person. Data shows, you are far more likley to be involved in some sort of accident that an older person is. Hence the price difference.

Let's face it, the reason car insurance is high for young male drivers is that there is a proportion of young male drivers that will be appallingly bad drivers who at times are totally reckless in the way they drive. Unfortunately, if you are a safe young male driver who is never reckless, you still end up having to pay a high premium to begin with, because all premiums are calculated by statistical analysis and that can't actually take account of your driving style, e.g. whether you leave a margin of error, observe safe stopping distances, observe speed limits etc etc. Personally I would like to see an improvement in insurance where they can actually identify these safe drivers and reward them accordingly, but I don't see how that could happen. Until then, No Claims Bonuses are the next best thing. Effectively good drivers have to subsidise bad ones and it's so unfair.

You should have had them on from the start, for young drivers it can make a massive difference to your premium.

Hell, i'm nearly 25 and adding my Mum can take anything up to a third off, depending on car.

Can anyone explain to me why this is?

Civic Type-R £5500 - £950 fully comp - IG 17
ST220 £5000 - £980 fully comp - IG 16
MG ZS 180 £4500 - £1015 fully comp - IG 16

Why?!?!?

Now try cars like a volvo S80 t6, a saab 9-5 aero or a Jaguar 4.0 XJ8. All are faster cars but the image means insurance is no different or cheaper.

(Well it was in my case anyway :D)
