Hello good sirs of Overclockers, I have gone against all advice given in my previous thread, and bought (no R) a terrible car that I can't afford.

The car in question is a "limited edition", which appears to have a non-standard body kit and exhaust. Now although the "limited edition" car has a body kit as standard, the car I have purchased has a different body kit, and I am unsure if I should commit insurance fraud by not declaring this.

If I decide not to declare it, and I get stopped by the police, could I get arrested, or would I be able to get away with it by pretending I was unaware of the fact it had a non-standard body kit, despite the fact I've just admitted on a public forum that I'm fully aware of this? If I do decide to lie to my insurance company, but they find out and void my insurance, what happens?

Am I allowed to drive the car home after giving the insurance company false information, and then give the correct information afterwards?

Answer:

If it's a non-standard body kit/exhaust, these need to be declared. Chances are, if you get stopped by a copper, they won't know the difference, but when you write the car off, the insurance company's assessor/engineer will most likely spot it.

They might not necessarily void your policy, but they will probably either adjust your premiums (upwards) appropriately, or refuse to pay out.

If its the last one you posted it didnt really seem to be a limited edition *shrug*
Wasn't it just a standard SXi with a laod of rubbish stuck to it?

And do we really need another thread?

Just checked with a car actually listed as a limited edition model and "limited edition" actually shows up when you put in the reg, for this chavtastic offering it does not, leads me to believe it's just a normal SXi.

Yeah like I say Im sure my mates actually said Special Edition as a result on regchecks.

Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 SXi 3dr [AC] LIMITED EDITION, VXR BODYKIT
Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 SXi 3dr [AC], LIMITED EDITION VXR BODYKIT

Comma just in the wrong place?

Theres no need to say chav this and that because i do like the look of it but then everyone has different tastes but i cant get it anyway cos if i add the mods insurance is 3k for me :S

Trust me, that's a blessing in disguise.

All jokes aside, do yourself a favour, and take the unanimous advice from the other thread, and get a £1-2k car that you can actually afford.

Dont buy the car dude its a standard 1.4 with tat stuck to it, yes it lookss very boy racerish, thats what most mean by chavvy, but at the end of the day its just bits of plastic stuck to the body.

The insurance would likely go up if you declared the additional body kit and stuff also

i very much suspect that this is nothing like a special or limited edition and its just aftermarket bits n bobs stuck on by the previous owner. Quote happy to eat humble pie if it does indeed say SE or LE on the V5 :)

Is insurance for young drivers always this high these days?

I passed my test and bought my first car in 2004 (a 1.2 Fiat Punto) and I certainly don't remember having to cough up 2-3k for insurance. That could be like £250 a month for insurance alone!

I've had my license for I think 3 years now, not sure lol, my first insurance was 1440 for a 2L turbo diesel Focus, I for a refund of about 300 when I moved home too.

The usual random numbers and postcode lottery always come into account but 1st time driver and a car very well known to the boy racer scene will get the insurance companies rubbing their hands!

Back in 2002 when i was 17 my first insurance policy was on a Vauxhall Omega 2.5 V6, i remember clear as day that it cost £1195 to insure.

According to the BoE inflation adjuster, that equates to £1645 now.

I dread to think what an Insignia 2.8 V6 would cost for a 17 year old now (equivalent car).
