Had my renewal notice from Prudential this morning, £1845.90!

So I phoned up to tell them I didn't want them to auto-renew it simply because it was over £500 more than the next cheapest quote I'd had. They passed me on to cancellations who went away and after lots of messing around matched Churchill's quote and the Quidco cashback I'd have got for taking it out, so a year's insurance for £1319.85 :D

Okay, my example is a bit extreme, but imagine how many people they do that to who don't even question it and just pay the renewal

It is ridiculous and a big wee take by insurance companies, it was exactly the same with my clio, on renewal they wanted £1700 or if I watned to pay monthly it would 'only' work out at £2000!!! Made it out as if it was good too "don't do anything and we will just start robbing you during daylight hours", if I got a quote as a new customer it was £980 which I was very pleased with, but also quite worried that there will be many people out there just presuming that's what insurance costs nowadays and bend over and take it.

Yeah Admiral sent me a renewal letter proudly stating my renewal at ... ~£1100. I thought "hang on a minute I've been getting quotes of circa £850 online" so rang them up and pretty much stated this. I like them, so I'll obviously give them a chance before moving, but they matched the price (eventually, after several phone calls and several certificates with incorrect information ;) ) and all was well :)

The moral here is always question their quotes and shop around, your age is against you with 5’s but it will get better with time. When I got my latest 5 (E60) one of the major insurers would not give me a quote but they had insured me for the previous one. Shopped around and I’m now happy.

Indeed.

Last year I was 20 with 1 years NCB driving an ATR paying £2k a year.

This year I am 21 with 2 years NCB paying £1k a year (same company). I done an online quote with them, noticed it was £500 cheaper than the renewal they sent me so rang up and queried it.

They knocked off £300 there and then. (I pay monthly and online quoting is per annum).

I managed to get my quote down to £866 for an Octavia VRS (group 16 iirc) remapped with about 4-5 other mods.

23, 0 no claims.

Just did a quote on a 530i Auto Sport (2000) and it came out at 4300...

Damn that SP30 and crash! :p
