Hi all

I am doing an intensive driving course with my test on Weds.

Well I have a 106 1.4, I have obtained the cheapest quote once on full license for £830, but whilst still on my provisional it was £550. Well I have insured my car now at the lower cost.

Will my insurers up the price, and demand more money if I pass on Weds?

Well, you'll no longer hold a provisional licence and now hold a full one if you pass....so presumably your insurance would be invalid. So yes, I expect you'll have to pay the difference to change the cover.

The price you pay for a year insurance is based on your situation at the start of the policy. They can't come back to you and want more money, the contract is already in place.

IE, if you get two speeding offences during the year, they can't come back and say that they want an extra 70 quid per conviction to continue your policy.

They'll pile on the price increase on your renewal quote. So hopefully the OP has got a year of pretty cheap motoring to go :D

You will need to sort out insurance when you pass, because changing your license will means that it isn't valid. It will cost more because before you pass you always have to have someone experienced in the car with you, whereas now you can do what you want which is a higher risk for them

incorrect.

When you have a provisional you have to have someone with you and they see that of less of a risk than a new driver on his own.

But the contract was for a provisional licence not full

So your contract details have changed..

So obviously you have to cancel your insurance and start a new policy when you get 3 points for speeding too, as your contract details have changed.

Nope no need to cancel, just inform them of the change. Often points don't have effect till renewal, but going to a full licence will cost at time of change.

No, your contract is amended. So if you move house, do they stop your current policy and give you a whole fresh one? Nope they amend the current policy with the new details, or so I thought.

well interesting and 2 different answers, suppose my insurarers will tell me on Weds once I pass :)

So you change cars half way through your policy... what happens?

You either pay the difference if your new car costs more to insure, or you get a rebate (like I did) if your replacement car costs less (beemer was £400 a year less than the leon!).

Sb118 is talking rubbish - ignore him. You will need to call them as there has been a material change to the facts given at the policy inception.

Whether they make a charge or not depends on their policy, most WILL.

As for speeding - some insurers require you to call when you get done and they'll bill you at the time for it. Others ask you to wait for renewal, but will clearly state this in their policy documentation.
