INSURGENCY: SANDSTORM

What is Insurgency: Sandstorm?

Insurgency: Sandstorm is the next installment of the Insurgency series coming to Windows, Mac, Linux, Xbox One, and PS4. Built on Unreal Engine 4, it retains the classic hardcore gameplay Insurgency is known for and expands upon it further with new features like larger environments, light driveable vehicles, competitive matchmaking support, and more.

Is Insurgency: Sandstorm a free update or a new game?

Insurgency: Sandstorm is a new self-contained game that is built on an entirely new game engine, with plenty of brand new features, improved graphics, vehicles, modes and weapons.

When will it be released?

Insurgency: Sandstorm is currently slated for a 2018 release date.

Will you be doing an alpha or beta version before release?

Yes, we plan to have a closed alpha by the end of 2017. A beta period will follow the alpha. The details of both these are to be determined, so stay tuned on our social media for any announcements.

Will spamming your inbox increase my chances of getting into the alpha or beta?

No!

What are the minimum system specs?

System specifications for the closed alpha and beta will be released when we release information about the closed alpha application process. Final system specifications are still to be determined. However, if your system is capable of handling other Unreal 4 engine games, it’s most likely capable of handling Insurgency: Sandstorm.

Have you set a price yet?

Pricing and availability will be revealed closer to launch.

nsurgency Sandstorm Pre-Order Beta 1 - Hotfix August 10th
10 AUGUST - NEW WORLD
Thank you all for joining us for this first phase of Beta testing so far. We greatly appreciate all the valuable feedback, and are hard at work polishing the game. From this point forward, our focus is finalization - including optimization, visual polish and important experience improvements based on feedback.

One thing worth noting about the optimization of the game, is that currently we are not fully utilizing Level of Detail[docs.unrealengine.com] to simplify our environments and characters. This is because of a few issues we’ve run into, which Epic is helping us with. When we’ve addressed these issues and fully implemented LODs, there should be a noticeable performance boost for everyone. Players can expect this as well as other optimizations to be included as we get closer to release.

In the meantime, we are releasing a small hotfix to address a few things which should improve your experience. Notes below.

Optimization
  • Characters who are no longer in the players view do not update their animation and bone positions.
  • HLOD distance is now affected by the users “Effects Quality” setting in the video menu. Lower settings should provide increased performance at the cost of some minor visual fidelity.
  • Lighting will apply to player cosmetics as a group instead of individually.
Gameplay
  • Improvements to hit validation to reduce cases of bad hit detection.
Fixes
  • Fixed a crash on Linux servers caused by character animation snapshot.
  • Fixed an issue with shotgun pellet simulation on some pellets.
  • Fixed an issue where cosmetic credits earned during a game were not updated correctly within the character customisation menu when first opening it.
  • The Game will not return to the main menu with “Connection has been lost” if Steam disconnects.
Updated Content
  • Improvements to the moving lean animation.
User Interface
  • Added submit feedback button to the main menu to allow easy access to the forums.

INSURGENCY: SANDSTORM DEVELOPMENT UPDATE
POSTED ON OCTOBER 11, 2018
Hi everyone my name is Jon Higgins, and I am the Marketing and Communications Director here at New World Interactive. It’s been a little while since we last spoke about the development state of Insurgency: Sandstorm, and we’d like to take this opportunity to update our fans on what our team have been working on.

With the PC launch moving to December 12th, our team took a fresh look at the feedback you had provided during the course of the Beta and evaluated what our top priorities should be given the additional development and testing time. This includes optimisation, improving the quality of character models and animations, refining gameplay, fixing experience and immersion breaking bugs, along with giving the game a stronger degree of polish in general. The new date will also provide us additional time to test and implement our planned community features such as third party dedicated server support and the ability for players to launch custom configured games using our server infrastructure.

You may have noticed that updates are not happening as frequently as they were before. This is partly due to our decision to upgrade from Unreal Engine 4.19 to Unreal Engine 4.20 (a significant upgrade to the core game engine which should provide important development benefits going forward), and partly due to us implementing larger gameplay and level changes which require extra testing. After the next update, you can expect more frequent patches and updates leading up to release.

Our next update is planned for the end of October and we aim to include the following:

  • Migration to Unreal Engine 4.20
  • A new urban map called ‘Precinct’ stylistically distinct from others seen in the beta so far.
  • Community dedicated servers and an improved server browser.
  • Improvements to the low-quality scope option.
  • A new tattoo cosmetic option, with more varieties to come.
  • Additional Anti-Aliasing and graphics options.
  • Improved character models and animations, including caching of cosmetic items to increase performance, higher quality textures, and proportion adjustments. We will be making further improvements to characters after this update as well.
  • Numerous gameplay tweaks to movement speed, weapon mechanics, armour, fire support, map layouts, and hundreds of bug fixes and improvements.
In addition to the above changes, we have also been thinking about how we can reward players who pre-ordered the game and helped provide crucial feedback during this extended beta testing period. Although player profiles will be reset before launch, we have decided that Beta testers will be rewarded with an exclusive tattoo cosmetic along with additional cosmetic appearance credits at launch. We will be releasing more information about this carryover and how to claim closer to launch. Be sure to keep an eye on our official accounts for details.

As always, your feedback and support are invaluable to our team. We’d like to thank each and every one of you who have joined the incredible number of players participating in this pre-order period and look forward to joining you on the battlefield in the next update!
