As per the title, any good insurers for imports @ 25 years old with 4 years NCB? Tried a few for generic quotes on a GTO but am struggling to get under £1300 with declared mods of induction kit, Turbo Timer and dumpvalve (pretty standard mods).

Any help would be greatly appreciated

sorry to hijack your thread, but if you did buy an imported car is there any way of checking if its been nicked, dodgy history etc? before it came into this country.

Nope, not really.

Surely if its imported ok and passed all the relevant stuff and registered here, then it doesnt matter much?

The only suggestion i'd have is admiral then :( if they are a no go-er then i'd put 1250 as what you are going to have to pay

Try warwick-davis.

Yes, make sure it comes with a BIMTA certificate:

BIMTA

I didn't even know these existed untill I got one with the Estima.

Might be worth joing an owners club - they often have affiliations with an insurance company and get a discount on premiums for members.

I know Sky Insuance are affiliated with the Mitsi FTO owners club, not sure about the GTO though...

Sky are also affiliated with the Celica GT4's owners club - apparently they're the best out there for modded GT4s for this reason - not sure about other jap imports.

That seems rather high. I pay less than that

1) Do you have a history of performance cars? If not you have to expect to be stung as they expect you to crash it

2) Are you a paid member of a car club such as 200 Plus or maybe a GTO owners club?
This can get you as much as 15% off your quote, and when you consider that quote is well over a thousand, thats a lot...

i've been pretty successful with greenlight a couple of times, but its worth seeing if the owners club recomend anyone. Also most companys will give you a bit of a discount if you show your part of an owners club, even if they don't have a deal with them (guess its so you go and brag about the deal you got.....)

I live in an area of Hartlepool called Owton Manor. It's not a good area - the MX-5 was around 700fc as a UK car. I park on the drive overnight which certainly doesn't help. I also use it to commute in and have to park in Hartlepool town centre -again, not good for insurance. Ok, it's not Manchester, but theft was a massive problem her in the 90's.

I have history of performance with Flux - 200SX and an MR2 but they came up with 1250 witha 500 xs. Not terribly arsed really, it's not outrageous to be fair.
