I'm really, really, really chuffed. I've put a lot of hard work into this, quite often joking with my mates "I'll put it in and it'll just fire first turn of the key", quite tongue in cheek really, I was as surprised as they were when it fired over first time
Before I had even had a chance to get the car MOTd it broke
I'm pretty sure the dizzy has gone, and new one and plugs have been ordered for delivery tomorrow, we'll see how it goes. If it is the case I imagine the cause of failure is from having the plugs out of the head and cranking the car over before startup. This makes the ignition amp work really hard to get a spark over a bad ground, which would have been the case with the plugs resting on the rocker cover. Ahh well, something less to worry about once it's sorted.
The distributor has just been delivered, fitted it in 10 minutes and the car started first turn of the key
I can't say that i'm overly happy with Probe Distributors though, the quality of the dizzy cap is shocking, it flexed loads when I was putting the leads on, not something i'd associate with good quality. Also, it make me furious when I order things and they turn out costing more than discussed. I had phone the company yesterday to order the part, asked how much it was and was told £150 plus £9 postage, fair enough says I. When it turned up this morning i've been charged £150 + VAT + postage. Nothing was mentioned of this when I was on the phone, which I feel is a bit off. Having checked their website it states that the price is £150 + VAT, but I never ordered over their site and this wasn't mentioned over the phone. It's all a bit....meh...
I was quite surprised though, the list was quite pitiful compared to what I was prepared for.
I'd forgotten to replace the split pins in the bottom ball joints. Both sides.
Headlight alignment. Both sides. (I always thought that any reasonable garage would adjust this for you, how the hell are you supposed to do it at home?
Emissions. Failed on CO on the first test, then it just say failed on the Lambda and CO on the second test. I couldn't exactly go ragging the car to heat the cat up and the fuel has been sat in the car for about a year.
Do we think that a fresh tank of fuel would help here?
All in all it didn't do as badly as I thought it would have, makes SB118s failures look mammoth
I got insured yesterday and have done about 60 miles so far. I've never had a new car before, how hideously painful is this running in carry on? Honestly, i'm bored of it already. The car feels quite pokey, a lot more low down shove than I remember.
Also, I had to check very briefly as it was stuck at the back of my mind. Vtec works
I know it wont cause any serious issues, the car had been driven for an hour or so before hand so it was nice and warm.
It's not getting 1000 miles either, it'll get as close as I can be bothered to get to 500, and oil change for some decent oil, then let the games begin
Down on power when it's hot, little bit of a misfire at the same time. There's oil weeping from the HG behind the exhaust manifold too, erm...........doh!
I'm not doing anything until i have time to diagnose it properly, which can wait until after the weekend.
I'm not really too bothered, it's gone pretty straight forward this far anyway. The good thing about the Integra is that it's just my toy, I don't need it to get anywhere so i'm not getting stressed.
Just a few pics after i've rebuilt it. The car was minging dirty when I took these photos, it was a spur of the moment thing and i'll be damned if i'm washing the car in the dark.
Engine bay; filthy already
Those are actually the first night shots i've ever properly taken, don't think they have came out too badly all things considered.
The head is still weeping a bit of oil, i've got this weekend free to look at it, though.
Quick update, I've now done 670 ish miles in the car and it's been spot on. The only issue now is the oil leak, which is very small and i've traced it, so that'll be sorted next weekend. I'm really happy with the way the car drives, which is ace as I was expecting loads of little niggles to iron out. This morning was time for it's first oil change:
I checked the oil level at home, then drove to my mate's garage to change it....
Ooops, forgot to put the oil cap back on. Good job it's only a couple of miles there.
Old oil container and new. The Silkolene is roughly 6 x the price of the other garbage i've been using to run it in with.
New filter on
I put the new oil in then decided to take the old filter apart to see what goodies I could find.
