Been looking at these over the last few years, last of the cars on my tick list to own whilst I'm young (the other being an R32 GTR but I'll leave that until last I think) Had the mk1 Focus RS my father repaired (catd) for a few months now but had a good offer on it and have taken a deposit with the guy collecting the car Saturday :)

Seen this on pistonheads and have been in contact with the guy, planning on picking it up on the Sunday providing my sale goes through fine and it is as good as it looks in the Ad.

http://pistonheads.com/sales/2730113.htm

Know there's a few DC2 owners on here so.... things to look out for, good price etc (agreed on £4750 if car is up the the standard he says) The 4 tyres are fairly new Avon and have 7mm+ tread and the cambelt was done at 50k, think the ad covers everything else.

Thanks.

haha the old JDM vs UK.... I like both TBH, even if the UK front end does look a bit "stuck on" :D

Cheers Muffin'

I've spoken with the seller over email and he specifically mentions how good the underseal etc is and how it has no rust (unlike many)

Seems like a nice genuine chap -

"The car is exactly as described, there are some stone chips here and there and some little scrapes on the wheels but for a 13yr old car its in fantastic condition. The only bits that would require any attention would be the bubbling on the front lip of the bonnet (common problem; after washing, water gets trapped inbetween the lip and a rubber seal) and spoiler (Jet wash unfortunately peeled a couple of 5p sized patches) which currently have a bit of touch up on and mild parking ding in the offside rear wing, which is really not that noticable. As I said I havent repaired them even though it wouldn't cost that much. One of the problems is that colour matching the Championship White is really difficult, so you just end up with a car with different colour panels unless you go for a full respray. DC2's were only given a light coating of paint and underseal to keep weight down, which is why they are so prone to tin worm. Other than that there is absolutely nothing else that this car wants for. As you probably know the main thing really is to buy a DC2 with a clean chassis, as many have hidden rust issues. FHSH is a must. If there is any rust around the arches it means there is a lot more damage underneath and its over £1500 to repair. The engines go on forever so even high mileage examples as long as they are well maintained are fine, but difficult to move on.

I will miss this car, I love driving it. Its not as powerful as the cars you have owned or my Evo, but its power is much more usable on British roads and the delivery is a lot smoother than a forced induction car. So it is in my view a lot more pleasurable to drive. I ride bikes as well and the DC2 is like a 600 whilst forced induction is like a 1000cc bike. I used to have a Fireblade and it would do 100mph in 1st gear (just scary and unusable), but my GSXR600 was much much more fun.

£4750 a fair price? I've watched the market on and off for the last 3-4 years and it seems they have dropped a bit recently, seems like an excellent price to me providing the car is as described. FHSH, low mileage etc.

ermmm Slightly on the highside for the 'market average', but in your shoes I'd snap his hand off. Gives you peice of mind and a nice point to start your ownership. Another one that's the same condition with £500 less is usally at the other end of the country.

Fundementally it's the same as the better looking JDM but it's for going down a B road not posing in the street, UKDM is better on insurance too.

Yeah it's only a 3hr trip on the train, plus I made £500 on the RS so I dont really mind if this one is on the higher side of the market and I lose a bit come when I finally get the Skyline, from the ad it seems like it's had everything done and will want for nothing :)

If you're backwards, yeah. :p Now stop ruining his thread. Just because it's a UKDM doesn't mean we can pick on the poor fugly thing's thread. :(

ha... I probably prefer the JDM front end too but after having a car stolen recently my insurance has jumped this year by £300 (even though I have 6 years protected NCB:rolleyes:) Lucikly Admiral Multi Car Policy saved me £180 so insurance is roughly £120 a year more than last year. So even though insurance isn't a massive issue, neither is UK/JDM so I'm happy to go for the cheaper insurance option. It'll be used for fun anyway, not to look pretty :)

The fact that the bodywork is going on these now I find off putting.

Rusting rear arches and bodywork is never going to be cheap to repair to a good standard.

I've also seen quite a few Hondas suffering from terrible paint, with the white looking very flat, EK9, DC2 and even a DC5. The later being advertised for sale!

Luckily my father runs his own body shop but obviously I still want to avoid any examples with rust or potential problems.

Personally and as a fan of NA engines and Honda's are think DC2's are very dated, they look dated, hey have a dated engine that was great at the time and for years after but today they would only be a great car if they were a reasonable price, the UKDM's rot like pears and ones in good condition are very very expensive, JDMs are very very expensive.

One thing that irritates me is people seem to treat them like some kind of super car, apart from being good fun they really can be quite over rated

If the one in my original post has been undersealed and is as described then it should be fine regards to rust? Would you say £4750 is very very expensive?

-Ad-Why are there soo many threads I need to write long replies for today :p

Thanks for the reply :)

I've had another email back -

The car has a full proper Honda Service History. They check the car at every service and produce a report of the parts that need replacing, which have always been replaced without fail. So, many of the bushes have been replaced, but I couldnt tell you exactly which ones. Each one was done as it was needed, I'm not aware that any need replacement yet, but if you have your car serviced at Honda they tend to find fault with bushes pretty early on, as they have an obvious financial interest in replacing them.

Yes there is definitely no rust on the underneath. The car has been checked properly and undersealed properly and there is no rust on the chassis either inside or outside. Your right to make sure this has happenned though as it is such a common problem on Integra's and its the reason in my view that my car is a cut above the rest.

I have had more interest in the car now so if you want to reserve it, you will need to get the cash to me pretty soon.

Friday or Saturday should be fine with me, we can discuss suitable times later.

Thanks

What do you think?

gwan, do ett.

Only got £6k :p

That is lovely though :)

can't fault much then! think its time to sort a viewing!

He's got quite a few people interested apparently and someone coming down from Liverpool to view on Saturday who thinks will buy it as they seem keen (although not willing to leave a deposit). (I know typical sales talk to try and get me to commit although I do believe he has got other interest as he seems a genuine guy and they seem quite rare in good condition with this mileage and history <£5k)

My RS I've taken a deposit and put through a new MOT today and it's being collected 10am friday, I'm tempted to head straight down then (4hrs total by train). Bit reluctant to put a deposit (he will accept £250 non refundable) but dont want to miss the car either, decisions :\

has he not offered first refusal to this chap from liverpool then?

just take someone knowledgable if your unsure with you, view it asap and give it a good going over. if its anything like described then you should be OK.

The guy from liverpool isn't willing to put a deposit down and he's not holding it for anyone without one (understandably).

I dont think I can get anyone up with me at short notice but I've bought a few cars myself anyway and thanks to everyone in this thread (and reading up on them the last few years) I think I know what to look for in general. Just remembered I'm sure someone off these forums bought a DC2 off another forum members years ago and it blew up on the way home? Seen it down Powerstation then having a rebuild whilst my scooby was being serviced. (Drexel and Simon spring to mind but I could be completely wrong :P)

ahhhh that's right I remember now :)

Not saying I'm worried about this one because I know how good the engines are, just made me think how long I've been looking at them for, must be around 4 years back now.

Is it not very rare because in yellow it mings to **** and nobody else was stupid enough to order it in that colour from the factory? ;)

Love it personally, wouldn't pay that for it though even if I had the budget for it.

Well my RS sold this morning so I'm heading up on the train in an hour, wish me luck :)

Well I made it back :D

Very impressed with the car, everything checked out, got the full Honda Service history. RTA bushes have been done along with £1000's worth of receipts, every one since new has been kept.

Have had a look through that rust thread, I'll get my father to take it apart and check it out when he's got time, luckily he has his own bodyshop so any rust that needs work on will just be a matter of time and not money although obviously I'm hoping it's not too much of a problem, had a look as good as I could without taking the car to pieces and it seems fine. It had the annual corrosion check at 61k by Honda which all came back fine if that means anything. The chap was more than aware of the rust problems and had been searching for one for months and months before buying this, he had snapped it up just a few hours after going on sale. Previous owner had the car for 10 years and it was obviously cherished. He's only selling as he's got a kid on the way and needs 4 doors (so it's been replaced with an Evo5 RS :D)

So impressed with the car I intend on keeping it for a good while, dont mind spending the money on it if needs be :)

Out of all the cars I've owned (Saxo VTR, STi Bugeye Scooby, EvoII, Corsa VXR, Focus RS, MK3 Supra, along with driving plenty more performance cars) this is by far the most "fun". The VTEC is just addictive and the handling and LSD fantastic, a different league to anything else I've driven. Can see why they are raved about so much, anyone who doesn't "get it" - go drive one :)
