Integrated kitchen door - how to refill holes so I can redrill holes?

Hi all, long story short. Old washing machine went poof, bought a new one
  • Integrated kitchen so door hinges sit on machine itself.
  • Existing Hinges do not line up at all. New holes must be drilled in the door BUT the old holes have to be filled first as they get in the way / make the door loose.
  • Tried getting a new door but kitchen people no longer make that colour.
Any idea what I can use to fill the holes....so they can be drilled again! Complete novice at this stuff

Thanks

What's the door made of? MDF or natural wood?

How big is the offset? Sounds like your new intended holes overlap with the old ones?

Plenty of wood fillers claim to be redrillable when dried but Ive found the effectiveness.....varies.

There are lots of other methods. You could drill the existing hole out larger, glue in a dowel then flush cut it level. Will give you a good surface to redrill and screw.

Can fill existing hole with woodglue and toothpicks and flush cut. Same as above method just a little more janky.

Maybe something in here will help

Cut some circles to a tight fit from 18mm mdf, and pva glue in. Trim flat next day.

The above might be too soft and the bore bit can wander...

I used some 2 part resin with some fibres when I did it previously. Dad gave me it though so no idea what it was.

I think wood - it's a Howdens kitchen so hope it's wood!

You are exactly right - the intended holes overlap with the old ones and cause an issue.

Thanks for the input will try

I've done it with hinge holes. Large ones, they're 35mm across or something. I cut a slightly smaller circle of wood and just glued it in. Wood filler is frankly rubbish, this method or glue mixed with sawdust for smaller holes works better.

Make sure you have a hinge cutter for the new holes.

I'm a fan of the dowel technique that I've used successfully before. Get some wooden dowels. Drill out the hole so that it's just large enough to accept the dowel. Push the dowel in with some wood glue, hammer it into place to get a good tight fit. Remove squeeze out. Flush cut when dry.
