Intel 45nm Roadmap Revealed

Q9450 looks like it's gunna be as successful if not more so than the Q6600 by the looks of things then :D (Peoples reactions in this thread i mean).

Does someone mind explaning the Cache to me and how exactly does it help?

I know Melbourne done tests with them and didnt notice much difference but i have to say when i had my E6420 clocked to 3GHz and then changed it for a E2140 also clocked to 3GHz i did notice quite a speed drop when doing Windows based tasks and installing Windows.

Their was actually quite a speed difference. :)

More cache can speed up the processing of larger files.

In normal day-to-day running it offers little advantage.

Tho those of us that Fold have found that it has a large effect on processing time.

Will the Q6600 be discontinued after the release of these CPUs?

I'm hoping the Q6600 will be even cheaper than they are right now when the new CPUs come out...?

Looking at the clock speeds I would think these would replace all the current quad cores and as a result probably won't see much of a price drop off the old ones.

Jokester

nothing terribly exciting tbh, samples have already shown modest improvements over current 65nm.

nehalem is the time to get excited about performance.

Q9450 really sounds good, kinda making me wonder if I should hold onto my E6400 until this chip arrives and upgrade, as I was going to buy a Q6600 mid-October... think it's worth hanging on? Looking about 3 month wait. I guess I could do with knowing how much the Q9450 would be, hoping sub £200.

Judging by the namescheme, the end values indicate the equivalent price market (judging by the way the clockspeed scales), If so, Q6300 for me, it seems like it'll be one of those brilliant price/performance monsters, even without the cache.

Ah, bugger.

The mouse was hovering over the buy button on a new system <slides mouse to the top right> clicks X

I can wait - but the time January comes round there'll be something new
I'll probably be waiting forever..........

Thats the thing with computer tech, if you wait for the next best thing you'll never upgrade, their comes a time where you just have to bite the bullet and go for it.
