Hey guys,

currently running an asus p5w dh, but looking for a change,

I was thinking the BAD AXE 2, but are there any better boards out there?

I do like the idea of just going intel,

So whats the cream of the crop?

Will be running it with my 6400 which clock to 3.3ghz on the above with no issues. And 4gb of G-skill 6400HZ

So guessing that rules out the 680 based boards.

Looking for ideas really.

Cheers

well, i studied few boards, DFI RD600, Nforce 680i based boards, and P5W series, and bad axe seems like best option.

So far looks like most finished board, read, no issues, works with out major problems, it might not be best overclocker, but i need moderate overclocking capabilities, so seems like best choice for me.

It will be paired with E6600, 2 gigs of Geil ram (on offer this week) zalman aero flower, and will stick for now with my ati 1900 xt-x till ati comes out with DX10 card, then i will decide if i will go for 8800 gtx, or new ati.
If i decide to go with ati still gives me posibility to go crossfire when i get more money if i wanted to, and if nvidia will be better deal it will still fit nicely with bad axe.

so i would say if you are loking for something stabile bad axe is good choice, but there are better boards around

Hey Vekiq

That was my thinking also, i am fed up with the p5w dh and its raid quirks lol.

The p5w is a good clocking board, but it to me just seems soo unfinished.

I will be running with,

Conroe 6300, 4gb G-Skill 6400 hz. Gainward 8800gts, 2 x74gb raptors in raid 0 and 2x250gb Maxtors in raid 0 for fast storage (will be backed up)

So should be a nice fast system.

Cheers

The badaxe 2 & the unsung Abit AW9D-Max are both great choices. The abit is very limited in terms of how many PCI cards can be used though.

well i have gone with the bad axe 2, i know intel support is very good, and they generally support a mobo for its full life cycle, not relase a few bios then forget about it.

I have had bad experiances with a couple of abit boards in the past, albeit a long time back, but refuse to consider them now.

I will post my impressions as soon as it arrives and i put it together, but more i read about Bad axe more i realise that i made right decision.

I will have it on Monday

still having fun and games sorting one out,

plenty of places have them, but im ordering a gainward 8800gts to go with it also and want it tomorrow at the latest, i hate internet shopping so may cancel my order else where and drive upto ocuk tomorrow even if it is £20 more

Gibbo sort me out mate!! :D

Bad Axe 2 is great. Easy to install. If like me, you think of a pc as a tool for relaxation and enjoyment, instead of an 'extreme' system that causes so much stress to configure, just for the few extra fps or whatever, then buy this board.
:D

Bad axe 2 ok for a mild o/clock? And, has it got any pci-express x1 slots? One review i read didnt mention them...

No it doesn't it has three PCIex slots. Unless you plan to run up to six monitors, there's no problem. If you wish to use Crossfire occupying two of these slots you can plug a PCIex1 card into the remaining slot. A PCIex1 card only uses the first few pins of the larger slot.

Have a browse here for a lengthy Badaxe2 users thread with plenty of information and first hand day to day users experience of the board. You might also browse threads on other mobo options to inform your choices.

well got mine all setup,

doesnt clock quite as well as the p5w got it at 400mhz fsb stable and tested over night.

my 6400 2.13 is running at 3.20 so not a bad clock.

Pain in the ass to over clock, but i am sure i will get more out of it.

Could well be my psu i guess, as i had to use the 4 to 8 pin convertor :(

Anetc 480 watter, running 2x 74gb raptors, 2 x 250gb maxtors, 1 x benq 1640 dvd-writer, 4gb ram 1 x 8800gts and the boad and cpu clocked lol.

Seems fine at 3.2ghz though.
