OK so the AMD 790FX is out and supporting up to 4 3xxx series cards.

Any idea when a C2D equivalent is going to hit the shelves?

Would be great to have 4 3870 cards hooked up with a penryn :D

Hmmmmmmmmm so CrossfireX could be an AMD only platform, that sucks because Phenom doesn't come to Penryn

AFAIK Intel chipsets wont support CrossfireX. Possibly due to licencing?

This is wrong, i have an ASUS P5WDH Premium that has the Intel 975 chipset and it fully supports CrossFire, as far as i'm aware all motherboards with intel chipsets that have two PCI-E slots will support CrossFire, what the Intel chipsets don't support is NVIDIA SLI but this is down to NVIDIA not supporting Intel chipsets in their drivers, not a limitation of the Intel chipsets.

CrossfireX and Crossfire and separate beasts, CrossfireX is upto 4 cards and currently there are no Intel based boards that support it.
