The Intel Broadwell-K series processors would be compatible with the LGA 1150 socketed motherboards which would feature the 9-Series Z97 Express chipset. As the name suggests, Intel would only launch K-Series unlocked processors based on the Broadwell architecture while the availability on non-K series remains a mystery for now. The Intel Broadwell-K series would be based on the new 14nm architecture while the Haswell Refresh processors would be based on the existing 22nm architecture with a few minor enhancements and clock speed increases.

However, the biggest change in the new platform would be the new power supply ratings imposed within it to support the Intel Broadwell-K series processors. So while the processor remains compatible to the same socket, it will not however remain compatible with the same chipset. This means that users would have to upgrade to a motherboard with the new Z97 chipset to fully support the Broadwell K-Series CPUs. For Intel Broadwell-K Series, users require V_PROC_IO connection with a 1.05V power source, VCCST Power supply and a new THRMTRIP.

Absolutely classic Intel. Diabolical.

FFS, shafted again just like 1156. I knew i should have stayed put. Before any AMD people pipe up they have done the same thing with FM1 and FM2.

Think il be giving the next cpu's amiss then was holding out till some thing was posted, think ill get my self a 3770K instead :D

Is this 100% confirmed it's not working on current Z87 boards? We all remember the Ivybridge FUD.

There's a lot of smoke and mirrors surround Broadwell anyway, one minute it's mobile only etc.
Then news of them delaying 14nm, etc.

It's full on retarded to bring out Broadwell on 1150 needing a new chipset, but again, we had the same type of crap with Ivybridge, so colour me sceptical.

For all we know, it's suggesting that it's coming with a Z97, just like Ivy came with Z77, not that it requires.

I think there may be something to this. Look at my emphasis above. It sounds like you may be able to use them in existing boards, but not get all of the new features?

No idea, but if not then nothing Intel ever do would surprise me.

Wasn't it Skylake bringing Sata Express? This article has it down as Broadwell.
And Z97 is the high end enthusiast platform? (Not according to Intel it's not)

It can go either way, but we always, and I mean always get scaremongering.

Broadwell just the other day wasn't getting a desktop launch.

It'll suck if this doesn't work with the current crop of boards, but if this did bring Sata Express, you truly would need a new board to get the new features, that doesn't automatically mean Z87 doesn't work.

Actually, AMD did the opposite, rehashed chipsets and threw them on a new socket.

EDIT : This news is 6 months old from a google? http://wccftech.com/intel-broadwell...-z97-h97-chipsets-brings-sata-express-10-gbs/

skylake supposed to bring sata express last time I read

x99 is next one from x79 I think?

I saw a sata express socket its like two or three ordinary sata sockets bridged with one long connector,it still lets you use individual sata ports as they are now

Thing is, will it really be much better than haswell? Or just the normal 10%?
I think it's skylake that is going to be the next big one with ddr4.

Too many mixed messages regarding broadwell lol

I am more interested in seeing the performance gap between Haswell Refresh and Broadwell. I think this is gonna split the consumer market further.

SATA Express and DDR4 will be reasons to want a new motherboard when these chips come around. I am hoping AMD manage to get their act together and have their excavator based cpu's out to compete with Intel so we have some healthy competition going on.

It's called evolution buys and girls...

Every time Intel have released a new CPU that requires a new socket they have a jump in per core performance and thus a jump in overall performance.

Every time AMD have released a new CPU that runs on old sockets they've had a jump in per core perfor....... Hold....On.... They haven't....
