What are the differences between these two NUCs?

Intel NUC Celeron 847 QS77 DDR3 USB 2.0 2 x HDMI
Intel BOXDCCP847DYE
Celeron 847
US 2.0

and

Intel NUC Forest Canyon Celeron N2820 DDR3 HDMI

BOXDN2820FYKH0
1 x Intel Celeron N2820 / 2.39 GHz ( Dual-Core )
1 x USB 3.0

Is the CPU the same? Which is more powerful?

The first one is the older model and the second is the newer model with the newer cpu/chipset/power requirements.

The second one is the one you want. Its actually a little cheaper than the old one. Oh and the older ones didn't support an additional 2.5" drive I the H suffix models... :) The newer one only has 1 x HDMI though.

the celeron n2820 is more powerful and newer.
It also has usb 3.0
I have ordered the n2820 nuc last week along with 4gb ram and 256gb ssd

I've been reading that there is problem with the N2820 chip and that Intel has replaced it with the N2830. I can't see any sellers with the newer chip though?

I had the 2820 from the rainforest at xmas.it came with the 2830 chip even though the cardboard box said 2820
Don`t forget to up date the bios ,they ship with old bioses

Have you put Windows on it or Ubuntu?

Can it cope with mkv as well as mp4 playback?

Well atm I am trying windows
Tip don`t get the amazon recommended bundle as there is no spare msata socket :(
I got sort of conned as I picked that along with the memory and nuc
Still waiting on a msata to sata caddy to use with the nuc

Cant say yet about the mkv+mp4 playback as not got it properly set up till i get the caddy

I'm think of selling my HTPC (AMD x4 640 ATX PC) which is bulky and getting a NUC. Just wondering if it'll live up to the task which is mostly playing movies, downloading, surfing.

I could rehouse the AMD system in a nice silverstone case so that it fits on a shelf, but that's going to cost me nearly as much as a NUC.

I think people these days think they need a powerhouse of a machine in order to do certain functions. You really don't. Movies (including full BDROM) play via acceleration from the built in graphics card. It is designed to accelerate specifically the functions of movie playback. Leaving your CPU mostly free to do other things. Therefore, the function of browsing and downloading will be fine with a Celeron NUC.

"Fine" is also subjective. Acceptable to my may not be acceptable to you (do you like my nice "get out of jail free" clause?" :P)

Don't know about the Celeron NUC's but as stated they should be fine for browsing, movies etc.

I just got myself a i3 one with 128GB MSata, 8GB Ram and a rather nifty wireless keyboard and it is amazing. I'm Most impressed with Steam streaming. Absolutely flawless.

So i would think a Celeron NUC will do just as good of a job.
