These look quite neat, come in two different versions as well. First and cheaper one is Linux and second one is W8.1, they are pre-installed of course.

Intel Compute PC LINUX Intel Quad Core Z3735F 1.33GHz, DDR3L 1GB, 8GB eMMC, Micro SDXC slot, HDMI, WIFI 802.11n/BT 4.0

Intel Compute PC, Intel Atom Z3735F Quad Core 1.33GHz, DDR3L 2GB, 32GB eMMC, Micro SDXC HDMI, WIFI/Bluetooth, Win 8.1

Edit: OCUK are selling these, for more information visit http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18667867

Apparently they are seriously lacking in beans.

I also believe the small dimensions are dwarfed by the volume that would be taken up by the cables, power supply and peripherals required for it to operate.

Anyone think of a scenario where a USB stick transported between computers or a laptop for an actually mobile computer would not be preferable...

Depends what your expectations are - Windows 8 works pretty well on 2GB RAM aslong as your not trying to use programs that require loads of RAM (above normal) or lots of programs at once, CPU core performance is reasonably respectable* inline with the core 2 line give or take core for core, mhz for mhz with RAM performance also of about that era. The one area that lags a fair bit is the GPU's 3D capabilities which are more xbox360 capabilities (performance wise - DX11, etc. is supported) at best but then your talking about a device little larger than a USB stick - though they handle HD video, etc. fine.

Generally you'd be better off just buying an 8" Windows tablet though.

* One issue performance wise is that some/most of them struggle with sustained moderate to heavy CPU loads and will thermal throttle significantly unless (and even to a degree if) well designed - which the cheap mass produced knock offs invariable aren't. (The Intel one has a small fan which probably offsets this - most of the other don't).

Using a win 8.1 tab , dual core with hyper threading clover trail , 2 gb ram lpddr2 and is plenty fast enough for browsing ( basic games sim city 4 etc ) left about 1 gb useable after windows chunk which in this day in age is still enough for any decent single application you may want to run or multiple low usage apps .

I wouldn't be expecting too much beans for the price anyway. It does what it's meant to do which would be web browsing , streaming videos etc.
