Intel Core 2 DUO E6300 or E6600 can't decide

lets not get mixed up, personally i have no worries ocing my rig - i choose not to because well i have no need what so ever and i just cba lol

but he did say he wasn't overclocking, well that's what i made of that sentence anyway - and if that's what he says that's what goes - his thread - his "rules" if you like

i dunno mate, but just seems common forum etiquette to go by what the poster wants over everything else

*shrugs*

Eh? Hmm so I was right in the first place with what you were saying...

For the record I have known a lot of people in my time who started out saying "im not OC'ing" only to be overclocking like a demo a couple of months later when they realize it's silly not to, and that there's nothing to be scared of ie: their house won't blow up.

The guy will likely end up doing it, and should do it. There's always justification for overclocking, and "can't be arsed to overclock" is just another way of saying "i'm completely ignoranrt on the subject and afraid if I do it tat I might break something". At least in my experience.

hmm, maybe for some people - but i know personaly overclocking is totaly pointless - like TOTALY lol, wohhaaa photoshop might load 0.2seconds faster! hehe, PERSONALY i dont bother anymore with aftermarket coolers (well not for the better-ness just becuase there quiter) and i dont bother with motherboards just becuase they have good overclocking facilities.

Anyway :)

fair enough for your need si conceed there's no need, but for the average user who games and spends money on their PC, it's a very good idea. :)

Thanks for all your comments yeah i meanto type i wasn't going to overclock. Not sure how or why i typed it like that :p .

Some great info there people now i've got to work out whats best for me and if the extra £100 or so is worth that step up for what i do on the computer.

Get the 6300 and overclo .... ;)

Personally get the 6600 if you aren't overclocking, higher clock speed, more cache?

But then again get what you can afford :)

I was hoping there would be a thread on this. I'm in the same situation upgrading my son's computer - he plays UT2004 and will be using it for UT2007 when it comes out, so am i better of going for the 6300 and using the extra on a better GFX card. I'm not planning on overclocking ATM as i'm trying to build something as quiet as possible (his current machine lives in the front room and is a Shuttle SS51G with a Radeon 9800 Pro which sounds like a jet taking off when he's gaming) :(

yeah, deffo e6300 and save money for the graphics - make mroe of a difference to his game performance in the end - but if you have no problems paying for a e6600 then well it wont hurt :)
