Intel Core 2 Duo E8400

In the few games that are optimized for quad core...yes...but the E8400 clocks higher most of the time.

I had a Q9650 at 4.4ghz and it was fun, but I much prefer my wolfy for bang/buck, and a 4.6ghz 24/7 clock is good stuff too :)

Well my spec will be.

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400@3GHz.
4GB Memory.
500GB Hard Drive.
Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB GDDR5.

All that comes to around £500.

Make sure you get a decent PSU and you have a great gaming system there.

I'd recommend a P45 motherboard as they are cool running and great overclockers as well...

At stock settings you will be around 100-130fps average with 4xAA at 1680x1050 depending on the level....and that doesn't actually change too much even scaling up to 2048x1152.

I do recommend overclocking the E8400 to 4ish ghz

if you can get an E8500 rather than the 400, 4.3GHz is easy without even starting to push it voltage no higher than 1.3V and temps no more than bout 37 brilliant chip! spend the extra £50 on a decent cooler tho! frame wise, i dunno! Gurusan is right get an intel P5Q (i have the Pro and i love it only fault is that unlike some thay havnt angled the SATA connectors to the side for cable management but no bigey

dealz you got to 4.6  what are your temps like? arnt you a little worried bout the voltage? is the 300 MHz worth it?

sorry off toic:p what i wanted to say is that i dont know why i said the P5Q was made by intel its asus:p sorry wasnt thinking

my temps....i get 37*c - 41*c idle....48*c - 55*c at load....65*c - 67*c full load....voltage no not really i think 1.37v is quite good for 4.6 however i could have it at 1.39v and i would be more stable but so far 1.37v is fine no crashes yet....erm is feels faster at 4.6 than 4.3 but i guess thats just me getting tricked into thinking its faster however my PC flies thur tasks and programs load quick so am happy
